Blog and contribute

August 16, 2009 by williamclement

The website is now being run as an open blog. If you’d like to be able to post here, it’s easy. Email me at wrclement@yahoo.co.uk or editor@ploughingmatch.com, I’ll arrange you a username, and you can post whenever you like!

If anyone is reading this from the ladies’ section it would be fab if one of you could edit the Ladies Section page as it’s showing the schedule for last year. Get in touch and I’ll tell you how to do it.

Cheers!

Changes to the website

August 8, 2009 by williamclement

Hello everyone!

You may have noticed over the last months the website has been updated very irregularly. I’ve been running it for several years but due to my being away a lot at university I think the time has come for a change; I go back for Michaelmas term each year the week before the show, so it’s not ideal for me to be the only one adding photos and updating results.

The information that was always on ploughingmatch.com – photos, results, the judges and stewards, information about the show and the ladies’ section – will still be here (on the pages listed at the right). But I thought it would be good if anybody on the committee, or anybody who would like to, could contribute to the website so that it gets updated more regularly and feels alive.

“Ploughing Match Blog”

The new website will take the form of a blog, which will allow access to anyone who would like to contribute something. Rob Seward will administrate, and I’ll still be here, too, in the background. I might post occasionally as ‘williamclement’, which is my username on WordPress, the blogging site our site will now be run from.  You can get your own username by going to www.wordpress.com and signing up there. After that we can add you as a contributor, and you’ll be able to write posts or edit pages you’re interested in editing.

“Posts and pages”

New posts appear on the front page of the website as they’re contributed, the newest at the top; and they’ll appear in the archive of posts in the sidebar to the right. All posts can also be tagged and listed under categories (also visible in the sidebar).  The pages will be updated yearly and contain general information, such as the year’s judges or stewards and the ladies section schedule – among other things. There is a page with a table of results which will be updated as they come in, but we’ll also alert you to new results as they come in over the summer by posting here.

Hopefully new posts appearing here as they’re written will make the website feel more vibrant, but if you’re not bothered about any of that, the information the old site provided will still be here. And despite the changes, the website address will remain www.ploughingmatch.com.

Look forward to hearing from you and to the future success of the website!
